that's who, with her decorating question's ! Every first Tuesday of the month Betsy has a "oy vey! g&a!"
I have admired Betsy's work for years ever since I picked up her book
'Great Color & Pattern Collection.' I have read and looked at every page a million times, just dreaming of one day having a room as pretty as in the pages I was looking at.
So when I discovered Betsy had a blog and would answer your decorating questions I was ecstatic. I had to muster up the nerve to ask her for help. Betsy has an amazing sense of humor and will hold nothing back, she will tell you like it is (so Betsy I'm ready) I have put on my 1990's shoulder padded jacket and I am ready of ya hehehe. I love Betsy she is so funny and a kick in the pants, and her decorating style touches home with me..
Recently she wrote a post called (How to Create Design with Color and Pattern) I fell in L-O-V-E with her wallpaper! the whole room is so beautiful it really gave me the kick in the old fanny to finally decide on Wallpaper or Bead Board for the bedroom. Betsy asked for photo's so here you go, I have tried to show you all walls and spaces in the room.
The entry into the room is 3 ft wide. Directly when entering the room the master bath is off to the right.
A vintage 1940 chandelier is hanging in the entry, the walls are painted Cozy Cottage by Sherman Williams. Carpet is spanking new just had it installed, my last post I talked about the color of it "Pineapple". Off to the left is a small, cozy, tiny, itsy bittsy sitting room and off to the right is the sleeping area.
The curtains are floral and I do love floral but these can be changed out if need be.
The closet you are seeing to the right is part of my husbands wardrobe closet and it wraps around to the other side of the wall.
We do not have a head board, our bed is new and is a king, since we were not sure about a head board we decied just to purchase the bed, what I thought about was having my husband make us a white Bead Board headboard. I know the shelve is a bit small above the bed, but it fills in the open space of not having an headboard. I love having home made things around me. So many of the linens and pillows were hand made for us and or inherited. The king size quilt on the bed I made.
During the summer we have the quilt just laying on the foot of our bed for color. We are not afraid of color.
Here is a photo of what the quilt looks like open on the bed as a bedspread.
Here is a picture of the quilt ingnore the old carpet... so ugly...
The quilt is reversible we can use either side.
I love wallpaper and have been wanting to use it again, back in the 70's I think my husband and I must have wallpapered every room in the house LOL (poor people that had to remove all that)
There is wallpaper Bead Board now that I think is really cool looking and I love the wallpaper in you your book Great Color & Pattern Collection on page 242.
The sleeping area is 13" x 13' wall to wall.
Husbands huge wardrobe it is built in.
The sitting room measures 6 ft x 10ft.
So if we were to wallpaper or Bead Board or both should be do every wall or do something different for the sitting room?
Off to the left I cut the photo off because hubby has to re-hang the door into the walk in closet that is mine. The new carpet is higher than the old one and the door was dragging.
So Betsy can you "Help" ?
What kind of head board to you see for the room?
Should we wallpaper or use Bead Board through out the entire room or just on a few walls?
Should we change the curtains to binds or plantation shutters?
Is the furniture arrangement right for the room?
Our style is comfortable and casual, vintage and cottage. We love the colors blue, red, yellow, green. Ticking and floral fabric.
So girls please chime on in with any of your suggetions. I can't wait to see what Betsy has to say!

Dearest Elizabeth,
As for me (us) we would never consult an interior designer as a home should reflect your history, revealing your walk of life with heirlooms, however insignificant and with photos. Especially a bedroom is such a special sanctuary that hardly can be created by anyone else. Guess you do have an idea yourself as what to do with the walls.
It looks very much like YOU BOTH right now. Love that huge built in wardrobe!
Enjoy a happy new week and hugs to you both,
Mariette
Morning Elizabeth and Gary!
The layout in this room is inviting. I love love that quilt; what a beauty. I would never remove that no matter what Betsy's opinion is - looking forward to reading what she would do as I like her style also. My immediate reaction to the armoire wall was I see red! Love that check fabric on the bench too. I think you would make the right decision with or without Betsy's "professional" opinion. I have always loved wallpaper too and want it my home now. (my husband counted 60 left over rolls in the attic when we moved from our previous house and it was a small 5 room ranch!lol)
Have a great day - Jeannette
Guess that you're about gilding the lily, Elizabeth, as this room looks delightful to me as is.
Beautiful bedroom love the touches of red and in particular the red gingham foot stool.
The first time we bought NEW furniture, we consulted the interior designer of the store. We really didn't know what we wanted, but truthfully after making the expensive purchase, you are stuck with it for a LONG time. I think you have a good eye and your style is lovely. I personally love bead board, and would love to have some in my own home. Wallpaper may become dated and you might tire of it, where the bead board (even if you just do one wall) gives off the country charm without being dated. Your bedroom is so lovely and comforting. Just my two cents :-)
Everything looks beautiful!! Whatever makes you happy should be most important!!
Elizabeth, your quilt is truly stunning!!! I love the nooks in your bedroom, and that the entire room isn't seen at a glance! You clearly have great taste. I think it should be fun to hear Betsy's opinion, and I need to check her out. If you don't totally agree with her--no biggie!-- you aren't forced into anything! I like curtains, but I really would love some plantation shutters in my own house if I had the money. :)
Blessings,
Leslie
I think you have a beautiful room just as it is but you know more of what you like than I do. Sometimes I think we get so used to seeing our own rooms that we really don't see the beauty. I like the colors and style of the room. My advice would be not to use wallpaper because it goes out of style so quickly and is such a pain to remove. Whatever you choose to do, I know it will be pretty because you have done such a good job so far. ------------ Shannon
I love your bedroom....and I adore the Gary and Elizabeth sign. Did you make that...cuz I would love one for us!
As far as decorating...you should let your heart dictate especially in your bedroom...but I will say one thing...plantation shutters are the best thing in the world as far as I am concerned...and they always look so rich...at least in my opinion.
Can't wait to see what you decide!!
I'm so impressed with that beautiful quilt that you made for your bed. I'm sure that was no easy task! I love that it reverses to a pretty floral too. I really like your new carpet as well. I bet it feels great under foot every night when you go to bed. I need new carpet in our bedrooms terribly! I hope that Betsy will be able to give you the advice you're looking for. I know she has a lot of experience with decorating other people's homes. Thank you, too, for stopping by my blog and leaving such a sweet comment.
What a wonderful space you've created. I love the color of the carpet and how it lets the other colors shine. I am interested to see what the designer has to say. Sometimes they can give us the nudge we need to make a decision. Beautiful job!
Hi Elizabeth! Your bedroom is so beautiful and I'm in love with your quilt! What a wonderful builtin for your hubby!
Thanks so much for popping in to see me.
be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Can't wait to see what you decide on. Love your sweet bedroom.
Sending you guys a great big hug.

Your room is lovely! I love your quilt and the new carpet is such an inviting and warm color....makes you want to just take your shoes off and enjoy. I think I would try wallpaper in the sitting area and a beadboard headboard, a little of both in small portions. That may be just enough change to make it "just right". AngelaLynne
I love your bedroom, all I can give you an opinion on is what I would do if it were mine and I could do whatever I wanted to. I would paint the wardrobe the same colour as the walls and I'd put long matching draperies in both rooms. Other than that, I think it's a beautiful room. I love the chenille with the quilt, the colours are gorgeous, the furniture very beautiful and your new carpeting is so luxurious looking.
But, I'm no expert, so I am going to go over and see what Betsy had to say.
Hugs, Cindy
Oh goodness! I checked out her blog and I can totally see why you love her style! I say do all three - plantations, wallpaper and beaded board. I am a big fan of putting a large floral wallpaper in a small space - like your sitting room and then do beaded board in the bedroom. Have you thought of maybe doing a beaded board that is a 4 inch rather than the 2 inch? And I loved the headboard in your other house that Gary built for you. Another one like that on top of a boarded wall would look amazing.
LOVE that quilt, too!
xxoo
Becky
PS: maybe a large floral wallpaper like the backing of the quilt?
Love the touches of red cos its my fave color. But I think no need to put red wall paper, touches of red is enough. Bead board would be fine i guess.
I'll wait for the come up of your room.
You have such beautiful style and lovely colors! I like beadboard....and don't care much for wallpaper but anything is easy to change later if you decide it's not quite right! The window treatments are usually what functions best for us! Sweet hugs!
HI there! I'm so happy to find your blog! I just came over from Betsy Speerts because I adore your room! I just love the quilts and everything. Beautiful!!! I'm going to be back to visit frequently now.
So nice to find you!
~Angela~
I was tickled to see Betsy picking you on her Tuesday Question day this week. Two bloggers I adore. You both have great style. I like what she suggested for your room. I'm sure whatever you do will be beautiful.
Oh...Your bedroom is a dream! I used to have a red, white and powder blue master bedroom. Seeing yours reminds me of how much I loved it. Your quilt and choice of fabrics, prints and lighting are simply wonderful.
Thank you for sharing, my friend,
Blessings,
Carolynn
Oh, you have a beautiful room! Wallpapers and beadboards each have their sense of style, so you have to make up your mind on what you want your room to portray. Do you want to brighten it up and look like a beach villa with white beadboards? Or do you want to play with your mood by using patterns and colors with wallpapers? You already showed us how great of a stylist you are, so I think whichever choice you make, your room will still look great.
Regards,
Rodney Orton
