~Green Doors~

Well its been four months now since Gary and I moved to our new little Cottage (Cottage 12). We have painted every room now except the laundry room, that's still white. I left all the doors white, but every time I went into the kitchen I felt something was not quite right, (you know that feeling) well anyway it dawned on me I needed to add some color to the doors!! so off I went to the paint store, but first I knew I wanted green I had the perfect shade of green in my yarn stash. I took the yarn with me to (Lowe's) but they could not match it with just the yarn, so I had to pick out a color swatch. Thank goodness Gary was with me, since he has the eye for color.
Gary chose (Painted Basket SR812)Valspar signature color. It was the perfect match to my yarn.
So here is the BEFORE kitchen and NOW.........

The Green Door!

I also added the metal basket with some flowers to the door. I think it really brightens up the kitchen.

The entry was in need of more color too. The inspiration was the green glass vase that Gary and I have had for 25 years.
Sorry for poor photo it was the only one I could find to show you the entry door BEFORE.

And NOW........Moocho Better.....I think! O ya I have a confession to make I spilt the paint, yes I did all over the tile. I screamed for you know who(((((GARY))))) come help me. He came running, I think he thought I was hurt (sorry honey). He brought me rags and I wiped up the huge spill!!. Gary had to scrap the grout for me to get all the green paint out. I must have the cleanest floor now in town. Scrub, Scrub and Scubaing some more....

Now I have a question for you all, I need your advise~Does the entry look to crowded with the plant by the window?. Our girls were over visiting and they said "Mom I think you  have to much in the entry and you should move the plant"... So do you agree with the girls...should I move the plant?
Sometimes I tend to me a clutter bug! yep I am a cutter bug, that's just me......LOL
Today I am joining in with Cielo from The House in the Roses, for (Show off your Cottage Monday)

Enjoy your day and God Bless

Try moving the plant out, take a picture and then compare to the ones you have on here. You'll know yourself what looks the way you want it to look. You have a good eye! I love the green doors. It certainly did the trick in the kitchen!

What is up with the kids? My aunt just told me that her son was visiting and he told her that she had too much stuff about. My daughter tends to let me know what she thinks (okay, sometimes she's right). Anyway, I understand that part of the post. Try it both ways and see what you truly like best. You live there for crying out loud!

Love the pop of green on both doors. I do love color and the green makes a big statement.

The green doors are perfect! What a neat idea!

I do think the plant might crowd that area - could you try it somewhere else?

Love, love, love the green doors! What a wonderful difference it made. I agree with a couple of others. Moved the plant - live with it out of the corner for a week. Then put in back in. If it feels crowded then, you will know.
Hugs,
Penny

The green doors make all the difference in the world! Who would think that a little color could go such a long way. Live with the plant there for a while and then move it for a while and see what you think.

Hi Elizabeth! Oh, I love your green door in your kitchen and what a pretty shade of green it is! You have a very nice kitchen too by the way.
Your entry looks beautiful and is that the same green color on your door? I might move the plant and just see how you like it.
Thanks for popping in to see me and I hope you'll come back sometimes.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Love your doors gal! They look so great!

I think you could definitely get by with the plant there, but I think you might be more pleased with the look without it. Try it both ways for a few days and see!

Thank you so much for your design advice! I have been filling orders but am going to put your suggestions to work. I'll let you know when I do so you can look at my shop and see what you think!
Your home is sooo lovely, Elizabeth!
Love ya,

What pretty green doors!!! :-) Looks like they would go with jadeite.

Elizabeth, would you be so kind as to post color of the paint and the brand? It's just gorgeous.

Elizabeth, both your kitchen and your foyer are so warm and inviting. Gary, great job on color choices. What would we do without paint in our decorating arsenal????

As for the plant, understand I am answering while I am in a current de-clutter mode. I thought the suggestions of removing and living without for a week was good advice. If you miss it--put it back. It's your house--make it yours. Enjoy the heck out of it ;-)

Oh yes, the doors look much, much better! Such a serene color. Everyone knows I cram something into every space. But once asked, I'd say move the plant.

I would go with the girls, the trees leaves cover part of the door. A suggestion, move the tree and show what it looks like in your next post, then let us tell you what we think. Just an idea.
Your green doors are PERFECTION! I adore them! I have another suggestion for you, try a different window treatment on your window near the dining room table. Those curtains close the window in and make it look so small. Try something that will take the eye up to the ceiling. Just a suggestion, perhaps ask your girls what they think of that idea.

Oh my, Elizabeth...what a difference a color makes. I loved them white, but the green just makes the rooms complete. It is a great color of green too. I love the plant in the entry, but like you, I tend to want something in every little niche.
So thankful Gary was there to help with the spill. Beautiful entry, and kitchen.

Wow, you two have accomplished a lot in four months. I just love your idea to paint the doors green and what a pretty shade it is.
When I first saw your foyer pics I didn't think the plant looked bad, but after you mentioned it I tried to visualize it not being there. I think it might be a bit distracting from the beautiful green vase that goes so well with the doors. It is a nice plant. Do you have another room that it would work in?

Hope you feel better soon Elizabeth:)xx

I LOVE the green!!

What a fantastic idea with the flowers on the back of the kitchen door! I may pinch that one if thats okay.

I think the plant looks fine in the hall. And plants are very good for your health, they take the yukky air from your home and replace it with lovely clean Oxygen:)

I am afraid I have gone the other way and got rid of too much.

My house just doesnt look like a home anymore, so I must start putting things back!

OH YUM! I LOVE the green doors... So soft and pretty. That's one of my favorite greens. It made a huge difference in your kitchen, didn't it?

I have a wood door in my kitchen that leads to the garage.... I was planning to add molding and paint the inside part with blackboard paint and add one of those little stick on-ie thingies that say Paris or whatever... I'm a clutter-bug too and debated and debated. Still not sure.

I'd leave the plant.... Refer to above. :-) Clutter-bug too.

Huggies,
Spencer

I have tried and tried to add your link to my favorite girlies and it just won't work. I don't know what the problem is, but I'll keep trying.

Love love love the green. Gorgeous. I think I agree with your daughters...the plant is taking away for the area. I would remove it and then see if you like it better. But - go with what you like....!

I absolutely love the doors! What a great idea. If you are afraid to paint color on your walls and want to leave them more beige, just add the color on the door! Brilliant. I agree with the consensus, move the plant I think it would look better without it there.

Lovely home!!!

HI Elizabeth,

Thanks so much for your kind words and support through the passing of my Dad. It meant so much to me! And oh my, your home looks fabulous! I love that color too, so crisp and warm looking and the basket on the door is great! I kinda think I'd move the plant too :) The door is such a stand out and it would be center stage with a little less there :) BUT everything really looks great! And some people think I have a lot of stuff too lol, but we all have to do what makes US happy :) Lots of luck, your doing a wonderful job! Hugs, Cynthia xo

Elizabeth, I am back..and I see the name of the paint all printed out for me up there. Am I blind? I didn't see it the first time.
Such a stunning difference!

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful green door! For some reason, I've become a much too cautious with colour over the years ( I guess it comes from a period of living in rented accommodation, where we had to keep everything magnolia with white woodwork, that I just hadn't moved on from mentally) but your blog has reminded me that woodwork doesn't have to be white! Thanks again - I think you have probably changed my attitude and my life!
